Thanks from a boot on the ground

Ran into your entry in the Manchu Guest Book and wanted to let you know that I haven't seen many people with the insight that you wrote of. Many in the rear area/support services don't realise what kind of service they truly provided for the boots on the ground. Coke/mail/C rations/blankets..........the list is endless. Just so you know; I know that without your help and support my job as a boot would have been nearly impossible without you. Thank you. Ken Montoya, 4th Bn 9th Inf, 25th Div. '68-'69

peace vis- a- vis war

"Si vis pacem, para bellum" - Latin for, "If you seek peace, prepare for war."

To the rest of the world:
"Long has our nation, the United States of America, kept the forces of chaos at bay.
By the blood of our people are your lands kept safe." - with apologies to Boromir

"We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence upon those who would do us harm." -George Orwell

Upon St. Crispins Day

"This story shall the good man teach his son;And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,From this day to the ending of the world,But we in it shall be remembered,We few, we happy few, we band of brothers. For he to-day that sheds his blood with me Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,This day shall gentle his condition; And gentlemen in England now a-bed Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here, And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."Henry V Text - Act IV, Scene 3:

War is an Ugly Thing

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873)

The triumph of evil

"All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." Edmund Burke
