Above the Screw

This is  a typical maintenance dispatch board  set up. Only in our shop we had a single board. The shift duty Sgt sat at it and  sent the radar tech crews out to the various planes and locations.
The lines and columns organized the work orders that came in from the maintenance debriefer after each flight. On the left edge there happened to be a screw that attached the Plexiglas sheet to the plywood stand. This screw became the mark by which we forecast the workload we faced coming on shift along with the any returning aircraft during our shift.
We could look to having an easy time of it if we were above the screw.  Late in the shift someone might be relived early if we were a few lines above the screw and no A/C coming back.
Below the screw and well, we were screwed.  Below the screw and on to a sheet of paper  ... welll not any good at all.
Occasionally we went to 12hr shifts, 7 days a week, because of the work load and lack of enough techs.  On One extended occasion the Sgt took to the idea of sending pairs of us off to the base theater. Remember we were nineteen and when I and my buddies turn came we got to the theater and found it closed for some reason.  These things weren't announced. So not wanting to loose the opportunity of an evening off we decided to visit the Airman's Club!  Two idiots can drink a lot of beer during the length of a supposed film.  A lot!

We didn't get busted or anything but we didn't get to go to the 'theater' again.
